Meet Our Team

Larry Boxman | Executive Director, Founder
Larry Boxman is the founder and executive director of On Golden Rescue (OGR). His path from Air Force Pararescue to large‑animal rescue began with a formative moment at age 12 during an overnight trip in the Appalachian Mountains, where he felt a deep calling to protect and care for animals.
He went on to serve in the United States Air Force and later in the fire service as a Paramedic, guided by a commitment to giving others more time with the people they love. As retirement approached, Larry recognized he had built the experience, resources, and support needed to create a nonprofit sanctuary for equines in need. In February 2022, he founded On Golden Rescue.
The rescue of OGR’s first group of equines affirmed the purpose he had carried since childhood, bringing a profound sense of clarity and peace. Today, Larry continues to lead OGR with the same dedication he brought to saving human lives—providing safety, care, and compassion to horses, donkeys, mules, and minis who need a second chance.

Victoria Kenworthy | Animal Care Manager
Victoria is a proud representative of On Golden Rescue (OGR), where she lives and works with heartfelt dedication to providing impeccable care and compassion for all residents.
A lifelong advocate for animals and nature, Victoria has devoted much of her life to animal care, including 22 years in the veterinary field. Her work has always been closely tied to rescue efforts, caring for a wide variety of animals—from tiny canaries to dogs, cats, goats, chickens, and horses. She takes her responsibilities seriously, viewing it as a great privilege to serve animals, especially those who have experienced hardship.
Beyond her devotion to animals, Victoria is passionate about her family, including her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also enjoys gardening and foraging, and finds joy in creative expression through beading and needlework. Her love for the outdoors is evident in her frequent explorations of the woods, often accompanied by her three dogs and a cat.
Victoria is also a longtime writer of poetry and prose, with a special affection for classic poets.
She warmly welcomes visitors to OGR, a sanctuary she considers an honor to support and be part of.

Jill Hendershot Roth | Staff & Volunteer Educator
Jill’s approach to horsemanship centers on connection, curiosity, and care. With decades of experience and a heart for teaching, she’s here to help our team grow—humanely and holistically.
Jill has been a student of the horse for over 30 years. Throughout this time, she has been repelled by the structure of dominance and hierarchy embedded in various “training” methods. She knew in her bones that there had to be a path with horses (and with life) that was founded in communication and cooperation.
Jill also delights in the wisdom that horses are willing to offer to us.
Certifications include:
Certified Equestrian Tai Chi Instructor, B.S. Of Psychology, Missouri State University, Equine Science Certificate – 3 year program from University of Guelph, Ontario, Level 2 Reiki, Previously on Board of Directors for Horse Rescues, and Fourth degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Ashley Cavett | Animal Care Provider
Growing up locally, Ashley came by her love of horses early on. With a father who used to rodeo, and her mom’s friend having a farm, she started mucking stalls and grooming horses at a young age. One of her fondest memories was grooming the large horses at Christmas for the annual carriage rides in Clatskanie. She and her family have many of their own large and small animals within walking distance of OGR.
Ashley’s formal education is ever-evolving. With an Associates degree in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship, a Bachelors in Business Administration and Health Studies and now studying for her NA1 Certificate (Nurse Assistant), she offers a wide variety of assets to the future of OGR and her local community healthcare system.
Ashley’s compassion/passion gives her an empathetic way of approaching her care for the animals at OGR. Her calmness and positive energy are reciprocated by creating a serene and comfortable atmosphere with each animal, which is therapeutic for both.

Gayle Rich-Boxman | Project Manager
Gayle shares a deep, emotional bond with every animal that comes to OGR. She has been a realtor in the Birkenfeld and surrounding communities since 2006 and she and Larry have lived and served this area since 2003. In the past, she has also volunteered for The Oregon Humane Society and the Portland Zoo. Gayle’s former career in long-term care and caregiving for humans has translated well in helping develop practices and personal touches to each animal at OGR. Gayle helps coordinate our various animal care plans and provides and researches holistic approaches to each animal’s unique health and quality of life needs.
