Honey’s Story

June 24, 2026

Hi it’s Honey! I just wanted to take a moment to tell you my story and how thankful I am for my new home and all my wonderful new friends at On Golden Rescue.

You see, not too long ago, I wasn’t in a great place. I was in a kill pen, scared, anxious, and hurting. My body had wounds, and my heart was full of fear. I had been through a lot, and I wasn’t sure if I would ever feel safe again.

Then, one day, I made my way to On Golden Rescue. This would be my forever home, a place where I’d meet someone very special—a gelding named Jericho. I heard Jericho had lost his best friend, Gypsy, and was looking for a new companion. Everyone thought that I might be the one to fill that role, so after some planning and excitement, I made my way to Oregon to meet him.

At first, I was nervous. I mean, wouldn’t you be? A whole new place, new faces, and new horses all around. When I arrived, I got to stay in my own area for a while, where I could see other horses and even some cute mini donkeys from a distance. But I still felt anxious, often pacing along the fence line, trying to get used to everything.

Finally, the day came to meet Jericho—at first, just across a fence. I wasn’t sure what would happen, but as soon as I saw him, there was something about his calm, gentle presence that made me feel at ease. We both needed a friend, and it felt like we understood each other right away. It didn’t take long before we were side by side, sharing hay and wandering the pasture together. Jericho even showed me the best spots to graze, and I loved following him around, feeling like I had a purpose again.

Life here at OGR is everything I could have hoped for. I love spending my days with Jericho—he’s become my best friend and makes every day brighter. And I can’t thank all the wonderful people caring for me enough for giving me a second chance. I’ve gone from a scared horse with a wounded past to a happy mare with a bright future.

Here’s to new beginnings, warm sunsets in the pasture, and the joy of friendship. Thank you, OGR, for making all of this possible!

With love,

Honey
