Oscar’s Story

Sweet Oscar, a Nigerian Dwarf goat was about 9 years old when we had the joy of adopting him into our brand new sanctuary back in March of 2022. We were looking at several equines coming from one property/owner and Gayle saw the goats (whom the owner hadn’t found a suitable arrangement for) and her heart melted. So, OGR brought them here, too! He was one of four of an original herd that we wanted to keep together and thus we began our unplanned excursion into goat ownership!

Oscar also had a nickname, “Carlos” soon after his arrival because of his dark goatee, which he seemed to be okay with being called. Homely as a fencepost, he was actually adorable in his own scraggly way. Very docile, he would hang back and let everyone else be the leader. A natural lover, though, he gravitated towards all of the staff with a funny little gait and willingness to be pet, always!

He died naturally one very cold winter morning, in January of 2023 while Gayle and Barbara held him closely and wished him a gentle journey to his heavenly home.
