Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries

In our quest at On Golden Rescue to become a premiere animal sanctuary recognized worldwide as an officially accredited large animal sanctuary by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), we have worked diligently in the last several months to meet the very high standards that this international federation requires for imminent accreditation.

Through their evaluation process, “GFAS can ensure those designated as GFAS Accredited uphold the highest standards for the animals in their care”.

They are the only 215 globally recognized organization for certifying that a facility meets the GFAS Standards of Excellence and recognizes those as a true “sanctuary.” As such, facilities around the world, large and small, come to GFAS for guidance and support in achieving and maintaining GFAS-accredited status.

Through their support and lengthy process, site inspection as well as board evaluation of every aspect of our rescue, we learned that one of their important criteria was to have an evacuation plan in place to be able to move all of our animals in our sanctuary in one evacuation trip in case of an emergency.

Our newly donated 24 foot trailer

We at On Golden Rescue had some of those needed trailers already at our property, but we needed more to temporarily transport our equines, minis, and goats to a safe location in case of fire, flood or whatever other emergency warrants moving them to safer grounds.

Per the required guidelines of GFAS, we went in search of what was needed. A 24’ trailer became available to us and with a very generous private donation, and we were recently able to acquire this well-cared-for trailer that can house up to seven full sized horses for a very reasonable price!

It made the trek to On Golden Rescue just this last Memorial Day weekend 2023, in our ongoing process to provide them with everything that they are so strict about in giving a sanctuary like ours the accreditation that we take so seriously and strive to achieve.

There are only 215 GFAS accredited sanctuaries in the whole world. This is one of the many steps we have taken to make that accreditation a reality for On Golden Rescue.

We are most grateful to all who donate to our sanctuary and welcome any size donation that is offered. After we become accredited it will lend further credence to how seriously we take our mission to have a forever home for those whom we have rescued. “No more bad days” is our motto and we welcome your support to make that happen for those we have the honor of caring for now and in the future!
